Delicious Dessert Recipes for International Dessert Day

Rich, distinctive and a source of natural sweetness, pure maple syrup serves as an excellent flavour enhancer for a wide range of desserts.

Most of us associate maple syrup with pancakes, but the sweetener can also be used in other treats like cakes, cookies and meringues.

With this in mind, we’re sharing five of our favourite dessert recipes, helping you up your baking game!

Mini tropical maple pavlovas

If you fancy a lighter option for your dessert, look no further than these stunning mini pavlovas!

Made with whipped egg whites, pavlova is an airy, delicate dessert that pairs wonderfully with tropical fruits and a drizzle of maple syrup.

Maple sugar is added to the egg whites ahead of baking for a touch of sweetness in the meringues.

After baking for three hours, the meringues are topped with cream, maple syrup, pineapple cubes and passion fruit seeds.

A sprinkling of desiccated coconut and a handful of mint leaves provide the finishing touches to the dish.

Maple cinnamon rolls

Nothing beats the aroma of freshly baked cinnamon rolls! A real crowd-pleaser, these sweet buns are sure to become a regular feature of your baking repertoire!

Our cinnamon roll recipe incorporates pure maple syrup and maple sugar, serving up a double dose of the distinctive maple flavour.

The highlight of the dish is the maple and cinnamon butter filling, which melts while baking to form a gooey, indulgent consistency.

Maple syrup and cinnamon are also mixed together for the glaze, adding another layer of flavour to the rolls.

Maple churros with maple-salted caramel

Another delicious dish combining cinnamon and maple syrup, churros make for a great addition to your rotation of desserts.

In this churros recipe, the dough is made by gently heating water, butter, vanilla extract and maple syrup, before leaving the mixture to cool and then adding flour and salt.

From here, the dough is transferred to a piping bag fitted with a large open-star nozzle and then piped into six-inch pieces, ready for frying.

Once the churros are crispy and golden, the key is to roll them immediately in the maple-cinnamon sugar.

If the sugar coating isn’t enough to satisfy your sweet tooth, the recipe also includes its own maple-salted caramel dipping sauce, specially made with maple spread!

Maple rum balls

Looking for a tasty dessert with a boozy twist? Fun and surprisingly simple, these rum balls are well worth making.

No baking is required in our rum balls recipe, which means even the least experienced cooks can get involved!

All you need to do is mix together all the ingredients, following the measurements closely, and then wait for the dough to set in the fridge.

After an hour or so, the mixture will have hardened, by which point you’ll be able to roll it into small balls.

Whether you’re looking for the perfect cocktail party snack, Christmas canape or a gift for a foodie friend, these rum balls will impress!

Maple macarons

Learn how to make these classic treats with these deliciously sweet and deceptively simple maple macarons!

Maple syrup is used in the cream filling, complementing the nuttiness of the almond-flavoured macaron shells.

Extra flavour is provided by the meringues, which are sweetened with maple sugar wedged in the centre of the macarons.

Besides their flavour, the best thing about these macarons is the array of textures, with the crunch of the shells balancing well with the soft meringue and cream filling.

Maple’s unique flavour

Whether used in cakes, puddings or biscuits, the sweetener adds a touch of elegance to desserts and is great for marking special occasions.
